In TOPIK I reading, short signs and notices can look easy until one key word controls the whole meaning.

Words like 금지, 가능, 안내, 신청, and 마감 tell you whether something is allowed, closed, open for application, or simply being explained.

If you learn to spot these words quickly, you can read short texts faster.

## 금지 means not allowed

금지 — geumji — prohibition, not allowed

흡연 금지 — no smoking

촬영 금지 — no photography or filming

출입 금지 — no entry

사용 금지 — do not use

When you see 금지, ask: "What action is banned?"

## 가능 means possible or allowed

가능 — ganeung — possible, available, allowed

예약 가능 — reservation possible

사용 가능 — available to use

주차 가능 — parking available

입장 가능 — entry allowed

가능 often gives the opposite feeling of 금지. 주차 금지 means no parking. 주차 가능 means parking is available.

## 안내 means information

안내 — annae — information, guidance

이용 안내 — usage information

행사 안내 — event information

수업 안내 — class information

안내문 — written notice

When you see 안내, look for basic details: time, place, cost, rule, or how to use something.

## 신청 means application or sign-up

신청 — sincheong — application or sign-up

신청 기간 — application period

신청 방법 — how to apply

참가 신청 — participation sign-up

If you see 신청, look for who can apply, how to apply, and until when.

## 마감 means deadline or closed

마감 — magam — deadline, closed

신청 마감 — application deadline

접수 마감 — registration closed

오늘 마감 — closes today

마감되었습니다 — it has closed

If a TOPIK question asks whether someone can still apply, 마감 is often the key word.

## Read the word that controls the action

For TOPIK I signs and notices, do not translate every word first. Find the control word.

금지 blocks an action. 가능 allows it. 안내 gives information. 신청 opens a sign-up. 마감 closes the window.

This small habit helps you understand the purpose of the notice before you worry about every grammar detail.
