Korean Train Booking Screens: Find, Select, and Pay for Your Ticket

To book a train on a Korean screen, start with four labels: 출발역 for departure station, 도착역 for arrival station, 가는 날 for travel date, and 열차 조회 to search trains.

The important choice comes before payment. Confirm the exact station, train, time, and seat class. 서울역 (Seoul Station) and 수서역 (Suseo Station) are not the same place, and a valid ticket from the wrong station can ruin the start of your trip.

Choose the official booking system

Korea has two systems travelers commonly meet for long-distance high-speed rail.

Schedules, sales periods, payment support, and holiday-booking rules can change. Check the notice on the official service for your travel date instead of relying on an old screenshot or blog post.

Start the search

Choose 편도 if you need only the outbound trip. Choose 왕복 if you want to search both directions.

On newer screens, you may see 출발지 and 도착지 instead of 출발역 and 도착역. Both pairs ask where the trip starts and ends.

Select the exact station

The city name is not enough. Seoul-area long-distance trains use several stations, and different routes leave from different places.

Before paying, compare the station on the booking screen with the station in your map app. Check the route from your accommodation too; a train may be fast while the trip across the city to its departure station is not.

If you are asking a person, say:

이 열차는 서울역에서 타요?
Do I take this train at Seoul Station?

Or show the booking screen and ask:

여기서 타는 거 맞아요?
Is this the right place to board?

Set the date and passenger count

The booking screen may display 어른 1명, meaning one adult. The counter 명 is used for people.

Double-check the date after midnight and when booking from another time zone. A screen can be perfectly translated and still show the wrong day because the wrong date was selected.

Read the train-results list

After you press 열차 조회, the screen shows the available departures.

Do not choose a row by departure time alone. Read from left to right: train type, departure station and time, arrival station and time, seat availability, and fare.

매진 means sold out. If one departure is sold out, check a later train, a different station, or another train type that serves the route.

At a ticket counter, ask:

오늘 부산 가는 표 있어요?
Are there tickets to Busan today?

If the answer is 그 시간은 매진이에요, that time is sold out. Follow with:

그다음 열차는 몇 시예요?
What time is the next train?

Choose a seat and class

For most travelers, 일반실 is the ordinary choice. 특실 is the higher-priced class.

Some booking screens let you choose 창가 or 통로, and some trains distinguish 순방향 from 역방향. Those labels describe the seat direction, not the direction of the route.

At the counter, you can say:

일반실로 주세요.
Standard class, please.

창가 자리 있어요?
Is there a window seat?

If the staff member asks 창가로 드릴까요, 통로로 드릴까요?, they are asking whether you want the window or aisle.

Review before payment

The review screen is the moment to catch an error. Confirm:

The exact departure and arrival stations.

The travel date.

The departure time.

The train type and number.

The passenger count.

The class and seat.

Do not read 결제하기 as a harmless "next" button. It means "make payment."

Payment options can differ by platform, card, and country of issue. If an online payment fails, use another official channel or ask at a station rather than repeatedly submitting the same charge.

Confirm that the ticket was issued

Do not stop at a screen that merely says your details were entered. Look for 완료, then open 승차권 확인 or 예매 내역 and make sure the usable ticket is there.

Save the ticket or reservation details in a form you can reach at the station. If the service requires identification or the card used for booking, follow the instructions shown on that booking channel.

Buy at a station counter

You do not need a long Korean sentence. Put the destination, date or time, and number of tickets in a short sequence.

부산 가는 표 한 장 주세요.
One ticket to Busan, please.

The staff member may ask:

When you do not understand, say:

화면으로 보여 주세요.
Please show me on the screen.

That turns a fast spoken exchange into something you can read and verify.

A complete booking sequence

Online:

승차권 예매 → 편도 → 출발역 서울 → 도착역 부산 → 가는 날 → 어른 1명 → 열차 조회 → 일반실 → 좌석 선택 → 결제하기 → 승차권 확인

At the station:

You: 내일 부산 가는 표 한 장 주세요.
Staff: 몇 시로 드릴까요?
You: 오전 열 시쯤이요.
Staff: 열 시 이십 분 KTX, 일반실 괜찮으세요?
You: 네. 창가 자리 있어요?
Staff: 네, 창가로 드릴게요.

The employee confirms the departure, train, class, and seat. Listen for the time and repeat it if necessary before paying.
