You reach a busy restaurant in Korea and see a tablet beside the door. The people outside are not standing in a line because their place is stored on that screen.
Look for
대기 등록 to join the waitlist. You will usually choose the number of people, enter the contact information the system accepts, and receive a waiting number. The exact screens vary, so learn the labels and keep three staff questions ready.
The words on the first screen

A button marked 2명 means a party of two. On a waitlist screen, 팀 means a party or group, not a sports team.
Numbers that tell you how long the wait is

An estimate can change as tables open or groups cancel. Keep the waiting number and check the restaurant's screen or message rather than treating the first estimate as an appointment time.

Do not assume every tablet accepts the same phone numbers. Some systems and restaurants can handle an overseas number; others use a Korean mobile notification. If your number does not work, ask before entering random digits.

Hold up the number of people if needed. Staff may ask:

Before walking away, make sure you know how this restaurant will call you. Keep the waiting number visible and return when you see 호출 or 입장.
