The menu is a wall of Korean, but the pastry you want is right in front of you. Point to it and say 이거 주세요: "This one, please."
That one phrase works when the item is visible: at a bakery, food stall, market, café display, or convenience-store counter. You can add a number, confirm what the staff points to, and correct the choice without naming the item.

이거 주세요 asks someone to give you the item. 이걸로 주세요 emphasizes your choice: "I'll go with this one." Both are polite enough for an ordinary shop or restaurant.
This, that, and that over there

Use 이거 for the item beside you or the photo you are touching. 그거 can point to something the staff member is holding, but it also means "the thing we were just talking about." Use 저거for an item farther away.
If you choose the wrong pointing word, the gesture usually makes your meaning clear. The next exchange lets you confirm it.

Do not answer 네 until you have checked where the staff member is pointing. Use a noun or pointing word when you need to correct them.

For a first attempt, point and say 이거 하나 주세요. Then listen for 이거요? and answer 네, 맞아요. That is a complete ordering exchange, even if you never learn the item's name.

주세요 becomes more than a travel phrase. Replace 이거 with 물, 영수증, or any noun you know, and you have a pattern you can keep using.
