Many TOPIK learners review reading practice by checking only one thing: "Was my answer right or wrong?" That feels useful for a minute, but it does not tell you how to improve.

If you want your reading score to rise, you need a better review method. The goal is not just to know the correct answer. The goal is to find the exact sentence, phrase, or logic in the passage that proves the answer.

This article is about that skill: reading for evidence.

It is different from a basic timing strategy. Timing helps you finish the test. Evidence review helps you stop repeating the same mistakes.

Why Normal Review Does Not Work Well

You solve a reading question and choose option 3. It sounds reasonable. The vocabulary looks familiar. The sentence feels connected to the passage.

Then you check the answer key. The correct answer is option 2.

At first, you think, "But option 3 also sounds possible." This is the moment where real review begins.

You go back to the passage and underline one sentence. That sentence says the writer agrees with the policy only if there is enough public discussion first. Option 3 says the writer fully supports the policy right away.

Now you see it. Option 3 was not completely random. It was close, but too strong.

That kind of mistake is common in TOPIK. The wrong answer often borrows real words from the passage but changes the meaning slightly.

The Three-Color Review Method

Try using three colors when you review a passage.

Blue: the sentence that proves the correct answer

Red: the word or phrase that made the wrong answer wrong

•

Green: useful structure words, such as however, therefore, for example

The writer's final attitude is probably positive, not negative. If an answer choice says "people still dislike the method," it may be using the first sentence as a trap.

This is why structure words matter. They tell you whether the meaning is turning, continuing, giving an example, or concluding.

Common Wrong Answer Traps

TOPIK wrong answers are not always obviously wrong. They are often almost right.

1. Too strong

The passage says "some people," but the answer says "everyone." The passage says "may help," but the answer says "always solves."

Strong words can be dangerous. If the passage is softer than the answer choice, be careful.

2. True but not the answer

Sometimes an answer choice says something true, but it does not answer the question. This happens often with main idea questions. A small detail from the passage appears in the choices, but the question asks for the central idea.

Ask yourself: Is this the main point, or just one example?

3. Reversed relationship

The passage says A causes B, but the answer says B causes A. The words look similar, so learners miss the direction.

Watch for words like:

Cause and result questions require careful reading. Do not only match keywords.

Real moment: The "same words" trap

A learner sees the word 환경 in both the passage and answer choice. They choose that option quickly because it looks familiar.

But during review, we check the sentence again. The passage says the new policy helps the environment, but the answer says the policy was created because of environmental complaints. Same topic, different logic.

The learner did not fail because they lacked vocabulary. They failed because they matched words instead of meaning.

This is why evidence review matters.

A Simple Review Template

After each wrong answer, write four short lines.

Check the answer.

If you were wrong, find the sentence that supports the correct answer.

Write one reason your answer was wrong.

This drill teaches your brain to expect proof.

A useful Korean sentence for your notes is:

This sentence is the evidence for the correct answer.

Another useful sentence:

These are simple sentences, but they help you review in Korean.

How Often Should You Review This Way?

You do not need to review every single question deeply. That can take too long.

Use deep review for:
