The results page loads, and instead of a simple pass or fail, you get a wall of numbers: a total score, section scores, and a grade you didn't apply for. Here's what each part actually tells you.

## Finding Your Grade

| Korean | Pronunciation | Meaning |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 등급 | deung-geup | grade/level |
| 총점 | chong-jeom | total score |
| 합격 | hap-gyeok | pass |
| 불합격 | bul-hap-gyeok | fail |

TOPIK doesn't have a single passing score. Instead, your total score lands inside a grade band, and that band is your result. There's no separate "pass" screen to look for: 합격 or 불합격 next to your grade just confirms whether your total score cleared the lowest band for the test you took.

## TOPIK I Score Bands

TOPIK I is scored out of 200 points combined across reading and listening.

| Korean | Pronunciation | Meaning |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 1급 | il-geup | Level 1 |
| 2급 | i-geup | Level 2 |

Level 1 covers 80 to 139 points, and Level 2 covers 140 to 200. A score below 80 doesn't award a level at all, which is why the report can say 불합격 even when you answered plenty of questions correctly.

## TOPIK II Score Bands

TOPIK II is scored out of 300 points combined across reading, listening, and writing.

| Korean | Pronunciation | Meaning |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 3급 | sam-geup | Level 3 |
| 4급 | sa-geup | Level 4 |
| 5급 | o-geup | Level 5 |
| 6급 | yuk-geup | Level 6 |

The four levels run 120-149, 150-189, 190-229, and 230-300. Because writing is graded by hand rather than machine-scored like reading and listening, a single writing section can shift your total enough to move you into a different band.

## Reading Your Section Breakdown

| Korean | Pronunciation | Meaning |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 듣기 | deut-kki | listening |
| 읽기 | il-kki | reading |
| 쓰기 | sseu-gi | writing |
| 영역별 점수 | yeong-yeok-ppyeol jeom-su | score by section |

영역별 점수 shows each section next to the others, which is worth checking even after you know your overall grade. A 4급 built on a strong 읽기 score and a weak 쓰기 score points to a different next study plan than a 4급 with even scores across all three, even though the grade on the certificate looks identical either way.

## Using the Score for Applications

| Korean | Pronunciation | Meaning |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 유효 기간 | yu-hyo gi-gan | validity period |
| 성적 증명서 | seong-jeok jeung-myeong-seo | score certificate |

Scores stay valid for two years from the day your results are announced, shown as 유효 기간 on the report. Universities and employers in Korea usually ask for a specific 급 rather than the raw total score, so once you know your level, that's the number to lead with rather than the 300-point total underneath it.

Screenshot the grade, note the date on 유효 기간, and you'll know exactly which form to check off the next time an application asks for your Korean level.
