You step off the train and realize your phone, wallet, or bag is missing. Go to the staff near the ticket gate and start with one sentence: 지하철에 두고 내린 것 같아요: "I think I left it on the subway."
Then give four details: what the item is, which line or station, which direction, and about what time. Station staff need those details more than a long explanation.

Start with the right "lost" phrase

Korean
Pronunciation
Meaning
물건을 잃어버렸어요.
mul-geo-neul i-reo-beo-ryeo-sseo-yo
I lost an item.
지갑을 잃어버렸어요.
ji-ga-beul i-reo-beo-ryeo-sseo-yo
I lost my wallet.
휴대폰을 잃어버렸어요.
hyu-dae-po-neul i-reo-beo-ryeo-sseo-yo
I lost my phone.
지하철에 두고 내린 것 같아요.
ji-ha-cheo-re du-go nae-rin geot ga-ta-yo
I think I left it on the subway.
Use 잃어버렸어요 when you know the item is missing but aren't sure where. Use 두고 내렸어요 when you left something behind and got off the train.
If you aren't completely certain, add 것 같아요: "I think."
2호선 지하철에 두고 내린 것 같아요.
I think I left it on a Line 2 train.

If you don't know the Korean direction name, open the route on a map and say 이 방향이었어요.

A short station-office script

You: 죄송한데요. 휴대폰을 잃어버렸어요.
Staff: 어디에서 잃어버리셨어요?
You: 2호선 지하철에 두고 내린 것 같아요.
Staff: 언제 내리셨어요?
You: 10분 전에 홍대입구역에서 내렸어요.
Staff: 어느 방향이었어요?
You: 잠시만요. 지도 보여 드릴게요.
You: 확인해 주실 수 있어요?
The script gives the item, line, station, time, and direction. Those five details are worth preparing while you walk to the station office.

If you notice the loss later

The Korean National Police Agency's LOST112 portal provides lost-property guidance, and the system connects information from police and participating transport organizations. Its center list also includes subway, rail, bus, and airport lost-and-found contacts.
When you search or report later, keep the same details ready:
•
item and color;
•
line, station, and direction;
•
approximate time;
•
any distinguishing feature;
•
a contact method staff can use.
If you lose a passport, payment card, or phone, recovery is only one part of the response. Take the appropriate security or issuer steps for that item as well.
Start by remembering one sentence: 지하철에 두고 내린 것 같아요. Then add the item, station, and time. After your trip, notice the pattern -ㄴ/은 것 같아요 in other situations. It lets you describe something you're not fully certain about, far beyond lost-property Korean.
