읽다 means "to read," so you meet it early in Korean. But the spelling can be confusing. It has a double final consonant, ㄺ, and the sound changes depending on what comes next. That is why 읽어요 is usually heard as 일거요, ilgeoyo.
The good news is that you do not need to memorize every sound rule at once. Start with the forms you actually use: 읽어요, 읽고 있어요, and 읽을 수 있어요.

The spelling has two final consonants

읽 has ㄹ and ㄱ together at the bottom. This is called a double batchim. In speech, Korean does not pronounce both sounds fully every time. The next sound decides what becomes easier to say.
Spelling
Natural pronunciation
Meaning
읽어요
일거요 / ilgeoyo
I read. / I am reading.
읽어 주세요
일거 주세요 / ilgeo juseyo
Please read it.
읽고 있어요
일꼬 이써요 / ilkko isseoyo
I am reading.
읽을 수 있어요
일글 수 이써요 / ilgeul su isseoyo
I can read it.
For the article title, focus on 읽어요. When 어요 begins with a vowel sound, the ㄱ sound moves forward, so 읽어요 sounds like 일거요.

Do not try to pronounce every letter separately

English-speaking learners often try to say 읽어요 as something like ilk-eo-yo, with a hard stop in the middle. Natural Korean is smoother. The sound connects into 일거요.
Spelling: 읽어요
Natural pronunciation: 일거요 / ilgeoyo
Meaning: I read / I am reading

You may notice that 읽어요, 읽고, and 읽을 do not sound exactly the same. That is normal. Korean pronunciation often changes when grammar endings attach to a verb stem.

What to listen for in real speech

When Koreans speak naturally, 읽어요 may sound like one smooth word, not three separate pieces. Listen for 일거요. In 읽고 있어요, the ㄱ before 고 becomes stronger, so it sounds like 일꼬 이써요.
This is why reading Korean out loud is not only about knowing Hangul letters. You also train your ear to notice how words connect when endings are added.

Keep the Spelling, Train the Sound

Write 읽어요 with ㄺ. Say it closer to 일거요. That separation helps you avoid two common mistakes: spelling the word by sound, or forcing every written consonant into your pronunciation.
Once 읽어요 makes sense, other double batchim words will feel less scary. You will start to expect Korean spelling and natural speech to work together, not always match one letter by one letter.
