읽다 means "to read," so you meet it early in Korean. But the spelling can be confusing. It has a double final consonant, ㄺ, and the sound changes depending on what comes next. That is why 읽어요 is usually heard as 일거요, ilgeoyo.

The spelling has two final consonants

This is why reading Korean out loud is not only about knowing Hangul letters. You also train your ear to notice how words connect when endings are added.
Keep the Spelling, Train the Sound
Write 읽어요 with ㄺ. Say it closer to 일거요. That separation helps you avoid two common mistakes: spelling the word by sound, or forcing every written consonant into your pronunciation.
Once 읽어요 makes sense, other double batchim words will feel less scary. You will start to expect Korean spelling and natural speech to work together, not always match one letter by one letter.
