🗺️ Say This When You’re Lost in Korea: Easy Korean Directions for Beginners

Lost in Korea? Don’t panic—just build your sentences like LEGO blocks!

In this post, we’ll guide you through the Korean Speaking Blocks: 길찾기 블럭 (Directions Block)—a step-by-step method to help you speak with confidence when asking for directions.

Perfect for beginners, travelers, and anyone exploring Korean cities for the first time!

🧱 Block 1: Asking for a Place (장소 묻기)

Let’s say you’re looking for a subway station or a bathroom—how do you ask?

Use these go-to expressions:

___ 어디예요? – Where is ___?

화장실 어디에 있어요? – Where’s the bathroom?

이 근처에 ___ 있어요? – Is there a ___ nearby?

___ 어떻게 가요? – How do I get to ___?

🧭 Example:

“지하철역 어디예요?” → Where is the subway station?

🎯 Bonus Tip:

Don’t forget to smile and use polite tone—Koreans really appreciate it!

🧱 Block 2: Talking About Transportation (이동 수단 말하기)

Now that you asked where something is, how do you explain how you’re getting there?

Try these:

버스로 가요. – I go by bus.

지하철 타요. – I take the subway.

걸어서 가요. – I go on foot.

택시 타면 돼요. – You can take a taxi.

🚶 Example:

“공항까지 버스로 가요.” → I go to the airport by bus.

🗣 Try saying your commute out loud with these expressions!

🧱 Block 3: Understanding and Responding to Directions (길 설명 듣기 & 반응하기)

Now it’s time to understand what someone says to you when you ask for directions.

These phrases will help you follow along and reply clearly:

쭉 가세요. – Go straight.

오른쪽으로 가세요. – Go to the right.

왼쪽으로 가세요. – Go to the left.

여기서 멀어요? – Is it far from here?

알겠어요 / 모르겠어요. – I understand / I don’t understand.

감사합니다! – Thank you!

➡️ Example:

“저기 횡단보도 건너서 오른쪽으로 가면 있어요.” → Cross the street and go right.

💬 Even if you only catch a few words, polite responses like “알겠어요!” and “감사합니다!” go a long way!

Practice Time: Build Your Own Sentence!

Now it’s your turn! Try combining your own sentence using the blocks above:

🧭 “화장실 어디예요?”

🚶 “걸어서 가요.”

🗺️ “쭉 가서 오른쪽으로 가세요.”
